First School of De Smet

image26

We are interested in acquiring items commonly found in an 1880's schoolroom to complete our restoration of the First School of De Smet that Laura and her sister, Carrie, attended.

We would like to purchase a antiques 1800's portrait of President George Washington and President Abraham Lincoln, as well as an antique pull down map of the United States.

Fence around Charles Ingalls' five cottonwood trees

image27

The first acre of Charles Ingalls' homestead is our Memorial Site. The site includes five original cottonwood trees that Charles "Pa" Ingalls planted around 1880, one tree for each of his family members. We would like to replace the old fence that is currently around the acre so that it is protected and more appealing.

Exhibit Expansion

The Society has over 2000 original artifacts that belonged to the Ingalls and Wilder families. Due to our limited display options, we are only able to rotate a small number of artifacts each year. our goal is to purchase more museum grade exhibit cases and hands-on displays for our visitors to enjoy.
